Summer is 2 months of pure bliss for kids, especially since it offers a break from homework, tests and the regular school routine. But summer vacation is not just for lounging around and playing video games all day! While allowing kids to relax and have fun, parents can also take advantage of the months-long break to help their kids unlock the magic of summer and gain the many benefits of vacation.
Research has proven that kids participating in diverse summer activities usually show improved academic and social skills. These activities are not only beneficial for their mental development but can also help them become lifelong learners.
Summer provides the perfect opportunity for children to be exposed to activities of their own choosing, where they can freely learn, explore and enhance their skill set. Playing outdoors and taking part in outdoor activities is an effective way to help your child become physically active.
Getting away from screens and putting down the video game controllers for a few hours a day can help your kids enjoy the wonderful outdoors and feel good about themselves- getting them to put the device away might be a different story though…
But once they are off their devices, and taking the time for a camping trip or a day at the beach is a great way for families to build and strengthen relationships.
Look for activities that will engage the kids mentally, socially and physically. That could be anything from visiting the museum to hosting backyard game night to scheduling a play date with friends and family.
Studies have shown that summer vacations are excellent for recharging the family’s batteries, as families can take the time to simply relax and bond together. I know that the time we spend together is more important than how I look. My family doesn’t if my hair is messed up, if I have any make-up on, or if my pedicure is flaked. They just enjoy the time we spend together.
In conclusion, unlocking the magic of summer brings many benefits to kids and families alike. Not only does it provide a great opportunity to spend quality time together, it can help children gain new skills and perspectives to help prepare them for the future. Therefore, everybody should try to take advantage of what summer has to offer and make it a season to remember.
